What makes the Royal Hallamshire Hospital a "Teaching" hospital?

The Royal Hallamshire Hospital forms part of the University of Sheffield's campus. There is a medical library within the hospital which is open to University students, and the hospital has many connections with the University in order to sustain their company.

The Hallamshire relies on the University for advanced research, in order to research new patient treatments. The University relies on the Royal Hallamshire Hospital for access to a clinical research setting, benefiting its students.

The relationship is beneficial in both directions.

However, the health sector's regulator (Care Quality Commission), has raised concerns that employees in the Royal Hallamshire Hospital do not always have adequate training, expertise, or competence for their roles.

If the Royal Hallamshire Hospital continues to degrade on the clinical side, this could present issues.
